BACK TO BLACK

The LBD: The Epitome of Timeless Fashion:

The Little Black Dress – mainstay of the modern woman's wardrobe since it was introduced by Coco Chanel in 1926; A little black dress is an evening or cocktail dress, cut simply and often quite short. Fashion historians ascribe the origins of the little black dress to the 1920s designs of Coco Chanel, intended to be long-lasting, versatile, affordable, and accessible to the widest market possible and in a neutral colour. Its ubiquity is such that it is often simply referred to as the "LBD."

The "little black dress" is considered essential to a complete wardrobe by many women and fashion observers, who believe it a "rule of fashion" that every woman should own a simple, elegant black dress that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.
So if there's one thing that never goes out of style in 2011, it's the Little Black Dress. A special event took place that demonstrated just how versatile a great LBD can be; it all comes down to details, accessories, and attitude. It’s like a blank canvas which can be dressed up or down, whatever the occasion. How often do you hear that some hot new trend being described as "The New Black" Often enough, though truly there will never be a new black. So deep are the associations with the colour black that wearing the colour in your clothing immediately sets the tone for your look.

There is a third group trend in the homecoming collection which goes for a completely new meaning of the LTB- little black dress. For those who want to opt for a black dress, it will have to embrace the drama in them, represented by severe, androgynous silhouettes in an almost all covered black palette.
As a concept, the little black dress has even moved on to represent an ideal of a perfectly simple, yet sexy object. Even the computer industry recognizes the need to inject a bit of "little black dress" into its design and marketing. A fashion anomaly, the concept of the little black dress never changes, much unlike the trend-crazed industry. It remains the height of chicness. It knows no social, style or size boundaries, it is still a little black dress.
And everyone wants to own at least one perfect little black dress through the years, the little black dress has undergone hemline, shoulder, strap and fabric variations and this season is no different. An essential in any woman’s wardrobe, the little black dress transcends trends and time, always the right thing to wear no matter the occasion. When a woman dons a little black dress, she is telling the world that she is worldly, elegant, and stylish with just a hint of glamour and mystery.

The black dress has a much lauded history. In 2011 haute couture designers and especially Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel has continued Madame’s vision of chic, languid style as epitomised by the LBD. Indeed he has conjured up couture collections composed entirely of black dresses as homage to Chanel’s original designs.
