The Swinging 60’s

  The 60’s fashion trend 2011/12
Apart from giving a nod to the 1970s with pussy bow blouses and long sleeved silk maxi dresses, the catwalks created a micro trend with reference the 1960s for autumn/winter 2011/2012. Pinafores, shift dresses, bracelet sleeves, polo necks et al were all shown creating a sophisticated affair. The look was dominant with models adorning clothing and accessories head-to-toe.

Peter-pan collar coats alongside leather miniskirts, cute cardigans and oversized buttons were all revealed. For lady-like glamour Jean-Paul Gaultier created beehive hair and classic fitted day dresses whilst Prada produced a range of go-go girls with fabulous knee high boots and brightly patterned dresses, complete with fur helmet-hats. If in the summer, the style of the 70s dominated the fashion stage, this time turn the 60s style that became a trend for winter fashion trend 2011.

There are some fashion items that become the key from the 60s style. Starting from the A-line skirt, tunic, dress with a collar like Peter Pan and bell bottom pants The collections sported a range of burnt orange hues, tan and monochrome colourings showing that the sixties was back in full swing. Jil Sander and Marc Jacobs all mastered the classic mod look carefully with black and white references and kinky ankle boots. Each decade of the 20th century is prone to being defined by its fashions; and for each of those decades is a cycle of revival inevitable.
Men fashion is surprisingly in tune this Autumn/Winter. This cohesive, comprehensive and whole-hearted approach means everyone will be looking dapper, on-point and styled. Key pieces include a tailored tweed blazer, light brown suede desert boots, crisp dark blue denim jeans preferably with a turn up and a light coloured shirt. Other favourite items are things like chinos, oversized duffle bags, trilby hats, woollen crew neck jumpers and padded jackets with a hint of country gentry about them. Key colours are burgundy, mustard, blue, grey and brown. This is a preppy look, but verging on classic tailoring with a hint of the 60s mod thrown in for good measure.

Burberry Prorsum’s bright block coloured coats and structured short-hemmed dresses hit a swinging London note. Prada worked together flapper chic and 60s mod into graphic pleated tunics and Mary-Jane heels and while the sixties fashion themes took root in fall 2011, don’t think they’ll be dead and buried by spring. Having found their way into numerous editorials already expect to see the ’60s continue as a spring 2012 fashion trend.
